Wanderers Blog Tour

Today on my blog I have the Wanderers blog tour. On my stop there is a spotlight and interview.

WANDERERS
(Wasteland #2)
The Emmy Award-nominee and Edgar Award-winning duo bring readers back to the Wasteland in this thrilling sequel.

Karin Slaughter, bestselling author of Criminal, called Wasteland, "A Lord of the Flies for future generations. An irresistible page-turner."

The former citizens of Prin are running out of time. The Source has been destroyed, so food is scarcer than ever. Tensions are rising…and then an earthquake hits.

So Esther and Caleb hit the road, leading a ragtag caravan. Their destination? A mythical city where they hope to find food and shelter - not to mention a way to make it past age nineteen.

On the way, alliances and romances blossom and fracture. Esther must rally to take charge with the help of a blind guide, Aras. He seems unbelievably cruel, but not everything is as it seems in the Wasteland.…

In this sequel to Wasteland, the stakes are even higher for Esther, Caleb, and the rest of their clan. They're pinning all their hopes on the road...but what if it's the most dangerous place of all?

Author Interview:
13. What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
LAURENCE: I’m proud of most of what I’ve written, happy that I’ve managed to support myself in one way or another since I’ve been an adult, glad that Susan and I have written together without splitting up as a couple, and relieved I haven’t been even worse to other people.

SUSAN: I’m honestly thrilled with the Wasteland trilogy. Laurence and I had written together before—we wrote two graphic novels, City of Spies and Brain Camp, that were lots of fun, and I love those, too. But those were basically screenplays, a form we’re very comfortable with; and they’re much shorter, too. That we were able to not only plot and structure this immense story but then actually write it without killing each other still amazes me. I’m really happy with the journey all of our characters take over the course of the trilogy – not only Esther and her friends, of course, but all of the people they encounter on the way.

And like Laurence, I’m thrilled that I’ve been able to support myself by basically telling stories.

14. Are you a plotter or a pantser?
SUSAN: I think that everything I write comes out of both. The early stages tend to be incredibly pants-y… I like to follow my gut and take chances and let my characters roam all over the page or lie down and be incredibly passive. Writing the WASTELAND books was a bit different, since there were two of us. The outlining stage is when we allowed ourselves to be pantsers, at least to a degree: we’re both very familiar with dramatic action and story structure, but when we outline, we’re just trying to come up with a basic plot together, brainstorming little moments, possible developments, motivations, and so on. It’s extremely loose; I’m sure the early notes from our early sessions would seem totally incoherent to an outsider. But out of that, we start to really buckle down and structure the plot. By the time we’re ready to write, we usually have a detailed outline that’s literally pages and pages long. Even so, I occasionally veer a little from what we’ve agreed on; sometimes, the characters surprise you. And of course, those little changes reverberate and affect everything that follows.

LAURENCE: I didn’t know what a “pantser” was until Susan told me. I’m a plotter, though most of my schemes go desperately awry.

15. How important are the names of the characters in your books? Do they all tend to have a deeper meaning, or do you choose them because they just seem to flow well with the story?

LAURENCE: I generally can't write a character until I have the right name, though sometimes it changes as I write. Some have meanings known only to me; with others, it's just a sound thing or a joke. For the Wasteland books, we wanted to use a mix of whatever might be left in the air and in people's heads after a societal collapse: names from the Bible, ads, different nationalities, etc.

SUSAN: I certainly try not to come up with really ordinary or interchangeable names… unless of course that’s an integral part of what I’m writing, e.g. a world of people named Bob. As Laurence said, we definitely tried to come up with names that had a bit of resonance; some of them, like “Esther” and “Joseph” are definitely meant to recall the Bible. Funnily enough, we sometimes come up with names that we realize too late sound too much alike; so we’re constantly tinkering and changing them as we go along.

16. Do you read your reviews?
LAURENCE: Usually, to see if I or anyone else can use them. But some of the ones online are so mean, I just skim them through shaking fingers.

SUSAN: I have to confess that I only read nice reviews that someone, usually Laurence, emails to me. I know some people read terrible reviews; but I can’t. They just kill me. I still remember bad reviews years later—not just the negative ones, which are painful enough, but the really cruel, mean ones. And even while the good reviews make you feel great for a while, they’re like a sugar rush; you know you’re going to crash by evening. The sad fact is you can’t depend on others for praise or criticism; you have to listen to and trust yourself.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. I would also like to say Thank You to Susan & Laurence for the interview and say Thank You to Book Nerd Tours for letting me participate in this blog tour.

Darkside Sun Blog Tour

Today on my blog I have the Darkside Sun blog tour. On my stop there is a spotlight, review, and giveaway.

Addison Beckett tries hard to pretend she’s normal, but she’s far from it. Since she was six years old, she’s seen the world around her unraveling, as if someone is pulling a thread from a sweater and it’s all slowly coming undone. When she ignores it, it goes away, so that’s what she does.
Enter her arrogant-but-hot professor Asher Green. He knows all about her special brand of crazy. In fact, he might be just as nuts as she is. Asher insists that the dead from a parallel dimension are trying to possess the living in this one. And since Addison seems to be the only one who can see these “wraiths,” she just might be the key to saving the world.
Addison wants nothing to do with Asher or his secret society, The Mortal Machine. But as their animosity grows, she finds it harder and harder to ignore the chemistry between them. And when she discovers that Machine laws forbid her from touching him, she realizes that’s all she wants to do.
Stop the wraiths. Break the rules. Save the world. All in a day’s work.
Normal was overrated, anyway.

Review:

New Adult with a paranormal twist?! I so had to read this book and I am so glad I did. I loved every minute of this book and when I was finished I wanted the next book immediately.

I loved Addison. She is shy, and dorky but if you had to deal with the weird things she has you would understand. She sees random dark holes that open up and bring extreme cold and strange creatures with it so I can understand her acting the way she does. She has always felt she was the crazy one in the world and this instantly made me love her and root for her through the book. But Allison really comes into her own during the storyline and I enjoyed watching her growth through the book.

Asher is a total ass! I wanted to smack him so many times while reading this book but as we learn about his past I understood him more and wanted him to work through his demons. WOW what he does at the end of the book had me crying and I can't wait for the next book to see more of him.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal books with twists and turns, a heroine you can't help but love and root for, and a tortured hero you wanna smack but still find sexy. I am impatiently waiting for the next book. 5/5 Bloody Fangs

The Darkness of Light Blog Tour

Today on my blog I have The Darkness of Light blog tour. On my stop there is a spotlight, excerpt, and giveaway.

The world has long forgotten them, but their descendants live on, not wholly mortal or god, but something in between…

At the dawn of the sixth century, in the aftermath of her mother’s brutal execution, Mara Black is forced to flee the only life she has ever known.

Mara can tell she’s different, but isn't sure why. After she encounters two mysterious strangers, she discovers her secret is but a drop in an ocean of many. She is a Dia, a descendant of ancient gods, and her mother sacrificed herself to protect Mara from their past.

Summoned by an uncle she didn't know existed, Mara thinks she’s found the family she’s always wanted, and Corbin, a love she never thought possible. But not everything is as it seems. Her uncle has other motives for protecting her, and her mentor, Malcolm, becomes so jealous, he’ll do anything to get what he wants. When tragedy strikes, and the true darkness among them comes to light, Mara discovers that sometimes love can give you everything, and obsession can take it all away. With her powers gone, and destiny calling, she has to look deep within to find the courage to save herself. Mara, along with Corbin and her newfound family, must fight to get back what was taken, or die trying.

Excerpt:

Corbin held up his hands as if he was approaching an injured animal. “Mara,” he said gently, hoping to snap her out of the ferocious trance.

She didn’t respond. She didn’t even flinch.

“Mara,” he tried again.

Her chest heaved with tumultuous breaths; her eyes locked on her prey. Corbin knew she wanted revenge, but this savage creature was not Mara. Her Light had taken a dark turn. This was no simple act of revenge. She was driven by her power and some animalistic instinct.

Isa sobbed a few steps back. “What’s wrong with Mara?” she asked.

Corbin tried to give her a reassuring look. “She will be fine, Isa. But stay back.”

Mara hovered over the sheriff, and as the seconds passed, Corbin felt the presence of the other Dia move closer. They had to get out of the forest. “Kill him, Mara, and be done with it!” Corbin urged, readying his sword.

“Step back!” she growled, pushing the dagger into the man’s flesh so that a thin stream of blood began to trickle down his throat. She seemed to snarl at him. “You killed my mother!”

Donna of the Dead Blog Tour

Today on my blog I have the Donna of the Dead Blog Tour. On my stop there is a spotlight, review, and giveaway.

Donna Pierce might hear voices, but that doesn’t mean she’s crazy. Probably.

The voices do serve their purpose, though—whenever Donna hears them, she knows she’s in danger. So when they start yelling at the top of their proverbial lungs, it’s no surprise she and her best friend, Deke, end up narrowly escaping a zombie horde. Alone without their families, they take refuge at their high school with the super-helpful nerds, the bossy head cheerleader, and—best of all?—Lance, hottie extraordinaire and Donna’s long-time crush. When Lance is around, it’s easy to forget about the moaning zombies, her dad’s plight to reach them, and how weird Deke is suddenly acting toward her.

But as the teens’ numbers dwindle and their escape plans fall apart, Donna has to listen to the secrets those voices in her head have been hiding. It seems not all the zombies are shuffling idiots, and the half-undead aren’t really down with kids like Donna…

Review:
Donna has been hearing voices for a really long and they always know when she is in danger and warn her. While she is out with her best friend Deke they barely escape being attacked by a horde of zombies. They make it to their high school where they see some more survivors from her school. Which include the boy Donna has a crush on and the girl she hates. Donna starts getting confused as her best friend Deke and the boy she’s had a crush on both start acting different towards her. But that is the least of her worries. They are running out of supplies and the zombies are closing in but some of these zombies are not your typical I want to eat your brains zombies. They have a plan and Donna is a big part of that plan as they want her for her special ability and if she has any chance of survival she will need to listen to those voices.

Donna is one of those characters that got on my nerves at times with not willing to stand up and help but she is also very scared so I understood that.  I’m not sure I could handle the situation any better and I was able to connect with that with her. Deke is very brave and he will go out of his way to help others. He did get annoyed with Donna at times but he still will do anything for her which made me love him even more. The other characters are well written and add to the story line as well.

I really enjoyed this book and the spin on the zombies was refreshing. I am looking forward to reading more from Alison in the future. 4/5 Bloody Fangs

The Violet Hour Blog Tour

Today on my blog I have The Violet Hour Blog Tour. On my stop there is a spotlight, review, and giveaway.

The voice inside me is breaking free. I can’t stop it.

Some call VisionCrest the pinnacle of religious enlightenment. Others call it a powerful cult. For seventeen years, Harlow Wintergreen has called it her life.

As the daughter of VisionCrest’s patriarch, Harlow is expected to be perfect at all times. She must be considered a paragon of integrity by the other Ministry teens and a future leader in the eyes of the world.

Despite the constant scrutiny Harlow is keeping a dark and dangerous secret, even from her best friend and the boy she loves. She hears a voice in her head that seems to have a mind of its own, plaguing her with violent and bloody visions. It commands her to kill. And the urge to obey is getting harder and harder to control….

Review:
This is defiantly not the book I thought it was when I started reading it but I was defiantly not disappointed.

I thought this book was about a girl who heard voices in her head but as I started reading it there was so much more to it. There is a little romance in the book which isn’t a bad thing but usually when I read a horror book there is none.

The story line flows well and I was able to like and relate to the characters. I really liked how the horror aspect wasn’t as graphic as it can be in books but as this being a YA book that could be why it was written that way. The story line had me glued to the book the whole time. I am defiantly looking forward to reading more books from Whitney A. Miller. 4/5 Bloody Fangs
