31 Days of Halloween

Today on my 31 days of Halloween I have Nathan Squiers. I love his series. It's one of my favorites and I am so lucky to get to be able to read his books before they come out and his newest book Rocks! So let's get to know more about Nathan:

Nathan Squiers (The Literary Dark Emperor and the author formally known as “Prince”) is a resident of Upstate New York. Living with his loving fiancé/fellow author, Megan J. Parker, and three incredibly demanding and out-of-control demon-cats, Nathan lives day-by-day on a steady diet of potentially lethal doses of caffeine and bacon. When not immersed in his writing, he often escapes reality through movie marathons, comics & anime, and gnarly tunes. While out-and-about, The Literary Dark Emperor can be found in the chair of a piercing studio/tattoo parlor, at the movies, or simply loving life with friends & loved ones.

Favorite Halloween Memory:
My first trick-or-treating outing when I was a child. I went out as the Tinman from The Wizard of Oz with my mother, and I spent more time reinacting the “breaking free” scene with my little plastic axe than actually going door-to-door. Even then, the holiday represented more of a chance for me to escape and be somebody else than actually doing so for any sort of gain (especially when I knew there was plenty of candy waiting for me back at home).

Top 10 Horror movies (in no particular order):
1.     Sinister
2.     The ‘Insidious’ franchise
3.     Deliver Us From Evil
4.     The Exorcist
5.     The ‘V.H.S.’ series
6.     Jeepers Creepers (first horror movie I ever watched on my own, so it holds a special place with me)
7.     Silence of the Lambs
8.     Nightmare on Elm Street (original)
9.     Rosemary’s Baby

31 Days of Halloween

Today I have Megan for my 31 Days of Halloween. I am a huge fan of her books and I can't wait for her next one. So let's get to know Megan better.

Megan J. Parker lives in upstate New York in a small town that no one can spell or pronounce. She is normally found either hanging in her home with her fiancé, Nathan Squiers (and two evil cats that believe–most likely are—that they are the lords of the house) or working at either a coffee shop or her college campus.
On her down time, she likes reading and designing new logos and videos. Her passion for telling stories is portrayed in all her work and when there's a story to tell, you can be sure she'll tell it to its full extent. She aspires to own her own design company and work in a studio where she can edit and write to her heart's content.

Running with You (A Fighting for You novella) coming early spring

Favorite Halloween Memory:

The second year Nathan (my fiancé) and I started dating, we went to a Halloween party at the local Goth nightclub that is actually said to be haunted. Later during the night, a lot of dancers began to report that they’d feel faint brushing up against their bodies when nobody was around to actually touch them. After another hour of smaller things happening, the entire nightclub lost power—and no one could find any good reason why the power would be lost that night. The event, while creepy, was an exciting and fun night of Halloween goodness and it being one of the first Halloween’s Nathan and I had had together, it was a great memory to be had.

Seventh Grave and No Body Promo Tour

Today on my blog I have the next stop on the Darynda Jones blog tour. On my stop there is a spotlight, excerpt, and giveaway.

Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out the jugular of Charley Davidson and serve her lifeless, mangled body to Satan for dinner. So there’s that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and the more she retraces his last steps, the more she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she’s ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life.

A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.

We’re doomed.

Excerpt:
I took the stairs to the basement. He’d been favoring the basement lately, as it had a few unused walls. I turned on my flashlight and slowed the lower I got.
“Could this place be any creepier?” Jessica asked, appearing behind me, her hands cradled at her chest as though afraid to touch anything.
“It is now,” I said, refraining from doing a fist pump and shouting, Score!
A singsong voice fluttered through the air toward me. “Somebody’s in trouble.”

I recognized the voice as Strawberry Shortcake’s—not her real name—a girl who’d drowned when she was nine. She’d taken up residence with Rocket and his little sister, Blue Bell. My gratitude with respect to that fact knew no bounds, because before SS had taken to squatting at the asylum, she was better known as a crazy stalker chick who warned me repeatedly to stay away from her brother, David Taft, a police officer in my uncle’s precinct. And she often tried to scratch my eyes out. Not an endearing quality.
Since Taft and I could barely stand each other, her concerns had never truly been an issue, but she’d seen me as a threat until her brother started dating skanks. Her words. After that, she decided I needed to date him after all. Thankfully, she was too busy being Chrissy from Three’s Company to push the issue.

Jessica and I turned toward her. SS wore her usual pink Strawberry Shortcake pajamas that were all the rage back in the day. Her long blond hair hung in tangles down her back as always, and her baby blues shimmered a silvery color, even incorporeal as she was. Though her luster had a general grayness to it, she was as solid to me as the walls around us.

The grayness often gave the departed away. And the cold. But more than that, their lack of emotion was a real tip- off —I couldn’t feel any radiating off the dead, as I could the living. Even without those signs, there was something intangible about the departed that made me instinctively know they were no longer among the living. It just registered in the back of my mind when I met someone who’d departed. I could always sense it. From the day I was born, I knew there were two kinds of people: the living and the dead.

What took me much, much longer to comprehend was the fact that not everyone was able to see the departed. My confusion had caused me problems growing up. Especially with my stepmother. But that was a story— or, well, a dozen or so stories— for another time.

31 Days of Halloween

I have Susan Griscom today on my blog. I love her books so much. I devour them every time a new one comes out. So let's get to know her better.

I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, spending most of my time daydreaming or playing around in the mud. I grew out of the mud play, well, most of the time, a good soak in the mud is always fun. I still daydream often and sometimes my daydreams interrupt my daydreams. So I write to remember them. If I didn't write, I think my mind would explode from an overload of fantasy and weirdness. To the annoyance of my friends and family, my characters sometimes become a part of my world. During my childhood, I would frequently get in trouble in school for daydreaming. Eventually, my vivid imagination paid off and I had the privilege of writing and co-directing my sixth-grade class play--a dreadful disaster, though not from my writing, of course. I'm pretty sure it was the acting.

I enjoy writing about characters living in small quaint towns and tend to lean toward the unusual and edgy.

My paranormal playing field delves into a different milieu, abandoning vampires and werewolves, but not discounting them. Someday I might like to write a novel about vamps and those furry creatures. But for now I like the bizarre mixed with romance. A strong hero or heroine confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers and capabilities gets my blood running hot as does an steamy contemporary romantic suspense.

Not In The Script Blog Tour

Today on my blog I have the Nit In The Script Blog Tour. On my stop there is a spotlight, review,  playlist, and giveaway.

Millions of people witnessed Emma Taylor’s first kiss—a kiss that needed twelve takes and four camera angles to get right. After spending nearly all of her teen years performing on cue, Emma wonders if any part of her life is real anymore . . . particularly her relationships.

Jake Elliott’s face is on magazine ads around the world, but his lucrative modeling deals were a poor substitute for what he had to leave behind. Now acting is offering Jake everything he wants: close proximity to home; an opportunity to finally start school; and plenty of time with the smart and irresistible Emma Taylor . . . if she would just give him a chance.

When Jake takes Emma behind the scenes of his real life, she begins to see how genuine he is, but on-set relationships always end badly. Don’t they? Toss in Hollywood’s most notorious heartthrob and a resident diva who may or may not be as evil as she seems, and the production of Coyote Hills heats up in unexpected—and romantic—ways.

This novel in the deliciously fun If Only romance line proves that the best kinds of love stories don’t follow a script.

Review:

I am a paranormal romance junkie. But in Not in the Script it’s a contemporary romance however with that I said I didn’t miss my paranormal at all. The story line and characters drew me in from the start and had my attention until the very last page. So much so that I actually read this book in one sitting.

I loved the characters so much. They had some great lines that had me laughing out loud. I was able to connect with them all and just feel like I know them. Which is a major factor for me when reading. I have to connect to at least one character and I was able to with them all in one way or another.

I have added Amy to my must buy author list now cause seriously I will devour any book she writes. She is just that awesome. 4/5 Bloody Fangs

Playlist for NOT IN THE SCRIPT:

I finished a first draft of this novel over seven years ago and revised it many times until it was finally how I wanted it, so there has been a lot of music involved in its creation. But the songs that follow in this list are the ones I most often think of in relation to certain scenes. A few of the songs are older (and one is truly old-school), but since they’re some of my favorites and I listen to them often, they helped inspire a certain mood. There are also a few songs that are too new to have been a part of my actual writing process but have since made me think, “This song is perfect for this or that scene.” I love music almost as much as I love books, so it’s a pleasure to present this playlist. I hope you like it!

SOMEBODY TOLD ME by The Killers: Imagine this song playing when Jake and Emma walk into The Cage on page 128. Why? Because I love The Killers (isn’t that enough of a reason?) and because this is one of my favorite songs to dance to. Coincidentally, Jake and Emma also love The Killers. ;)

EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran: I saw Taylor and Ed perform this together at a concert, and I’m pretty sure I was hovering ten feet off the ground. The words of this song describe how I imagine both Jake and Emma’s thoughts in the first paragraph of page 135 (even though they are in two different locations).

TREACHEROUS by Taylor Swift: I know, two of her songs in a row, but I couldn’t help but fall hard for this song when it first came out. It mirrors Emma’s thoughts for much of the novel. Sometimes you can already be in the middle of a relationship and not even know it, which can be sort of scary, but those are the sort of relationships that are worth the risk.

HANGING BY A MOMENT by Lifehouse: This song is one of just two that, from when I first started writing this novel, have influenced the mood of certain scenes, and especially the scene that starts on page 216. I love the playful nature of this song and the way it so expertly portrays how you can truly fall for someone, even when you don’t mean to.

SOMEDAY by Rob Thomas: This song is filled with some pretty powerful longing, which is why I’ve continued to love it year after year. Throughout the novel Emma expresses a desire to get past her sensitivity to the public’s intrusion into her personal life. She longs to be free of the judgment and expectation that rules her choices—her dating choices, in particular—but doesn’t yet know how to block it out. There’s a point in the novel where she thinks, “We have a future together, I can feel it. We just have to make it through the space between here and there.” And that’s the sentiment that this song reminds me of.

TERRIFIED by Katharine McPhee and Zachary Levi: First and foremost, it’s CHUCK! (And also Flynn Rider . . . swoon.) And Katharine McPhee’s voice is beyond amazing, so put them together and this song won me over in less than a measure. In fact I like it so much that I’ve attached it to the chapter I rewrote more than any other because it was so important for me to get it right. That chapter starts on page 260.

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST by Queen: Yep, Queen. Because they will always be freaking awesome, no matter how many decades pass by. I could leave it at that, but I should probably explain a bit more. This song is dedicated to the tabloid “journalists” who I imagine eagerly strutting down the street to the beat of this song, hoping with their cold, cold hearts that they will find a celebrity in the lowest moment of their life . . . and exploit them for the sake of entertainment. Just listen to this song as if it were sung by a tabloid journalist, and you’ll get a really good sense of how Emma feels about them.

AMNESIA by 5 Seconds of Summer: This is a very new song that caught my attention immediately because it’s just how Jake feels when, during a particular point in the story, he sort of disappears and no one is sure where he is. The funny thing about heartwrenching loves songs is that the majority of the best of them (in my opinion) are written and performed by men! So I definitely think guys are more sensitive and romantic than the world at large gives them credit for. #swoon

IRIS by the Goo Goo Dolls: This is the second song (along with HANGING BY A MOMENT) that has been a part of NOT IN THE SCRIPT from the very beginning. It’s the song I’ve always imagined Jake and Emma dancing to right before they leave The Cage. I’ve been around enough celebrities to know that many of them wear a mask, and even a different personality, in public. It’s only the people who are closest to them who know who they really are—their fears, insecurities, and what and who means the most to them. But it’s hard to trust new people in your life . . . not when they could so easily make a lot of money selling your secrets, or only being nice so they can namedrop and be seen with you. There’s a line in this song that says, “When everything feels like the movies, yeah, you bleed just to know you’re alive,” and I imagine that as a celebrity, it is indeed difficult to know what’s real and what isn’t when everything that glitters is not gold. But Jake and Emma both want a life, not just a lifestyle, so that’s why this is their song. And the last line sums up their story in a nutshell: “I just want you to know who I am.”

Amy Finnegan writes her own stories because she enjoys falling in love over and over again, and thinks everyone deserves a happy ending. She likes to travel the world—usually to locations where her favorite books take place—and owes her unquenchable thirst for reading to Jane Austen and J.K. Rowling. Her debut novel, NOT IN THE SCRIPT (Bloomsbury, Oct 2014), came about after hearing several years of behind-the-scenes stories from her industry veteran brother. She’s also been lucky enough to visit dozens of film sets and sit in on major productions such as Parks and Recreation, and Parenthood
