Author Take Over with Jaz Primo

I am so excited to have Jaz Primo on my blog today for my first Author Take Over. Jaz has written up an awesome post to share with you all but first let's get to know more about Jaz and his brand new book releasing today.

Jaz Primo is an author, history buff, pun-master, and all-around lover of paranormal and urban fantasy literature, as well as graphic novels. He’s redefining the traditional boundaries of urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and young adult literature with fresh characters and compelling storylines.

Stalker Links:

In the early twenty-first century, the world is a darker place where international superpowers tenuously jockey for both political and economic supremacy. It’s a time when the rights and interests of the individual carry little weight. But a medical breakthrough spontaneously blossoms telekinetic abilities within the body of one man, altering humanity’s evolution and threatening to tip the world’s balance of power.

That man is Logan Bringer.

When humankind’s greatest achievement leads to a race for its control, some will bring political and economic powers to bear. Others unleash an array of assassins and weaponry. However, when an assassin directly threatens Logan’s family, Logan unleashes himself.

He is…the Bringer of Fire.

Now I am gonna hand over the blog to Jaz:
Welcome to Psychic Abilities Day, everyone! What are you doing today for that special psychic abilities-gifted person in your life?

Okay, so maybe there’s not actually an official Psychic Abilities Day on the calendar. And you probably won’t find a section of cards at your local Hallmark Gift Shop that commemorates such an event. At least, not today.
But what about tomorrow?
What would the world be like if a newly-discovered drug could open up pathways in the brain that permitted access to psychic powers? Would fear rule the day? How about greed? Would the government try to secure the abilities for its own clandestine use, or would only the wealthy people in the world have access to it? What if there was a black market for the drug, or worse yet, crime syndicates that vied for control of such drugs? Better yet, what if international corporations held exclusive control over it?
I could see a world in chaos under any one, or many, of those scenarios.
Ah, but the question of the day is: which ability would you want to have? Would you want pyrokenisis, the ability to spontaneously ignite a flame? How about telekinesis, the ability to move objects with your mind? Would you want to be a sensitive who could divine the thoughts and emotions of others? Well, I don’t know about you, but being sensitive sounds pretty handy. I’d definitely want the ability to read minds. That would be totally awesome!
Hmmm…or would it?
Could I actually handle knowing the “truth” about what people around me were really thinking? It’s possible that those seemingly harmless “little white lies” we all tell from time to time could feel pretty hurtful if the truth were known. Okay, so maybe a friend might not actually like my new haircut as much as they were telling me they did. And perhaps my neighbor only “acted” happy for me when I told him about my latest novel, but then I discovered that he secretly vowed never to read anything that I wrote because he hated genre fiction.
*gasp*
Or, worse yet, could I handle knowing that my wife really didn’t just experience the best sex of her life with me last night like she said she had?!
*Memories from the film “What Women Want” come to mind*
Crap…maybe I want to be able to telekinetically move objects around instead.
Get a grip, Jaz…
Yeah. Let’s return to my earlier question. What would the world be like if a new drug permitted access to psychic powers? Well, fortunately for you, I have the perfect novel in mind (pun intended) that can answer that question! My latest novel was just released today: Bringer of Fire. It’s the first novel in my new Logan Bringer urban fantasy series, and I can’t wait for you to check it out!
I know you’re going to love Logan Bringer. He’s a kick-ass alpha male with a sharp wit and a new lease on life; an ex-Special Forces soldier who’s been recovering from his fight against brain cancer. His life takes a dramatic turn when the experimental cancer treatment he’s been taking has conjured telekinetic abilities in him, and he’s unwittingly become embroiled in a terrorist plot of global proportion. What’s more, his family’s safety has been threatened and time’s running out as he juggles suspicious FBI agents, clandestine terrorists, and his own body’s still-burgeoning abilities. Add to that, he’s starting to catch the attention of other government agencies. Throw into the mix two intelligent and alluring ladies with their sights on Logan, a federal agent with an attitude and a charming physician with a secret, and you’re got an action-packed storyline where figuring out who can be trusted is as challenging as guessing the guessing the odds on the Vegas Strip.
Trust me; you’re going to want to read Bringer of Fire!

Here’s the blurb from the back cover:

It’s a time when the rights and interests of the individual carry little weight. But a medical breakthrough spontaneously blossoms telekinetic abilities within the body of one man, altering humanity’s evolution and threatening to tip the world’s balance of power.

When humankind’s greatest achievement leads to a race for its control, some will bring political and economic powers to bear. Others unleash an array of assassins and weaponry. However, when an assassin directly threatens Logan’s family, Logan unleashes himself.

Breaking Point Blog Tour

Kristen Simmons has a master’s degree in social work and is an advocate for mental health. She lives with her husband Jason and their precious greyhound Rudy in Tampa, Florida

Stalker Links:

The second installment in Kristen Simmons's fast-paced, gripping YA dystopian series.

After faking their deaths to escape from prison, Ember Miller and Chase Jennings have only one goal: to lay low until the Federal Bureau of Reformation forgets they ever existed.

Near-celebrities now for the increasingly sensationalized tales of their struggles with the government, Ember and Chase are recognized and taken in by the Resistance—an underground organization working to systematically take down the government. At headquarters, all eyes are on the sniper, an anonymous assassin taking out FBR soldiers one by one. Rumors are flying about the sniper’s true identity, and Ember and Chase welcome the diversion….

Until the government posts its most-wanted list, and their number one suspect is Ember herself.

Orders are shoot to kill, and soldiers are cleared to fire on suspicion alone. Suddenly Ember can’t even step onto the street without fear of being recognized, and “laying low” is a joke. Even members of the Resistance are starting to look at her sideways.

With Chase urging her to run, Ember must decide: Go into hiding…or fight back?

My Review:
I highly recommend reading Article 5 first before starting Breaking Point so you understand everything that the characters are going through.

I loved this book so much. I immediately started reading this book as soon as I finished Article 5 and I could not put it down. Kristen has written a world that will leave you completely consumed and emotionally drained.

I love the connection between Ember and Chase. I just wish things were better for them and those they love. I loved so many characters and then there was some that I wanted to kick their butts. The strength of Ember will leave you amazed and have you forgetting at times that she is only a teenager.

I don’t want to give any spoilers about this book but I hope you can see how much I loved it and that you’ll read Breaking Point for yourself and form your own opinion.

Don't forget to get book 1:
New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., have been abandoned.

The Bill of Rights has been revoked, and replaced with the Moral Statutes.

There are no more police—instead, there are soldiers. There are no more fines for bad behavior—instead, there are arrests, trials, and maybe worse. People who get arrested usually don't come back.

Seventeen-year-old Ember Miller is old enough to remember that things weren't always this way. Living with her rebellious single mother, it's hard for her to forget that people weren't always arrested for reading the wrong books or staying out after dark. It's hard to forget that life in the United States used to be different.

Ember has perfected the art of keeping a low profile. She knows how to get the things she needs, like food stamps and hand-me-down clothes, and how to pass the random home inspections by the military. Her life is as close to peaceful as circumstances allow.

That is, until her mother is arrested for noncompliance with Article 5 of the Moral Statutes. And one of the arresting officers is none other than Chase Jennings—the only boy Ember has ever loved.

I wanna say Thank You to Kristen Simmons for letting me review her book and to Jean for putting this tour together and letting me participate in it.

In The Dark

I am so excited to be participating in this release day of Katie Salidas and Willsin Rowe new erotic book called In The Dark. Let's get to know the authors first.

Katie Salidas is a Super Woman! Endowed with special powers and abilities, beyond those of mortal women, She can get the munchkins off to gymnastics, cheerleading, Girl Scouts, and swim lessons.  She can put hot food on the table for dinner while assisting with homework, baths, and bedtime… And, She still finds the time to keep the hubby happy (nudge nudge wink wink). She can do all of this and still have time to write.
And if you can believe all of those lies, there is some beautiful swamp land in Florida for sale…
Katie Salidas resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mother, wife, and author, she does try to do it all, often causing sleep deprivation and many nights passed out at the computer. Writing books is her passion, and she hopes that her passion will bring you hours of entertainment.

Willsin Rowe Bio:
Willsin Rowe falls in love with a scent, a playful expression or an act of casual intimacy more easily than with physical beauty. When confronted by any combination of those elements he is a lost cause. He has done many things over and over, done even more things only once, and half-done more things than he cares to admit. He loves to sing and doesn’t let his voice get in the way. He is intelligent but not sensible. He is passionate but fearful. He is not scruffy enough or stylish enough to be cool.

Cory Matthews is a handsome undergrad...with an embarrassing phobia. One that gets his heart pounding every single night. Achluophobia. Fear of the dark.
With finals all done and dusted, Cory swings by to pick up his girlfriend Hana, and her sexy roommate Maddy, for a big night of hitting the clubs and blowing off steam.
But before their night of fun can get started a summer monsoon knocks out the power for a whole city block, plunging Hana’s house into pitch blackness...kicking Cory’s fear into overdrive.
Though Hana sometimes teases Cory about his phobia, she knows it’s no laughing matter. And she’ll use whatever comes to hand – including Maddy – to take his mind off his troubles.
Together, these temptresses will show him that sometimes darkness can be far more revealing than light.

WARNING:
This title contains graphic language, sexual situations, multi-racial nookie, girl-on-girl lovin’ and frankly unsupportable fear treatment methods

Excerpt:
“Oh no. Is it raining already?” The confident smile fell from Maddy’s lips and she wrapped her hands protectively around the body of her hair. “If a single drop of water hits my hair, I can say good bye straight and silky, hello frizz.”
“Don’t sweat it, girlie,” Hana said. “We’re not on a deadline. Why don’t we settle in for a drink or two here first and wait till the storm passes?” She cast me a sidelong glance. “And don’t worry, babe, I’ll protect you from the boogeyman if the lights go out.”
“Very funny.”
Hana smirked and turned back to her friend. She ran her hands down Maddy’s  luxurious red mane. “And you can keep your perfect hair while we all work up a sweet buzz. Then when the rain stops we grab a cab.”
“Beats paying club prices anyway,” I added. We were all struggling college students. It’s not like we were flush with cash.
“Well then, handsome...” Maddy angled her head toward the kitchen. “Would you go and get a desperate girl a beer?”
I sucked in a breath at the word desperate, but I didn’t need to be told twice. I grabbed the ladies a cold one each.
“Thanks, mister.” Maddy’s hot fingers caressed mine as she took her beer.
Hana thanked me with a kiss on the cheek and a squeeze of my ass, then whispered “Just you wait, sexy. Later tonight. We’ll give the boogeyman a good show.”
I wondered if she’d ever let me live down my phobia. Truth be told, whenever the lights were on I knew it was a completely irrational fear. Some people feel the same way about the ocean. They don’t mind it, as long as they’re not drowning. And I knew Hana didn’t mean anything by it, so I could handle a few playful jabs at my expense. It was worth it for the sexy payoff at the end of the night.
Maddy walked over to the stereo and tuned in some dance music. “Well if we’re stuck here, why not bring the club to us while we wait?” She shimmied her hips and took a swig of her beer.
“Now that’s an excellent idea.” Hana clinked bottles with Maddy and held her hand out to me. “Come on, big boy. Dance with us.”
I shook my head. “I’m happy to watch. Besides, I need to conserve my energy for...later.”

Mia Langdon—tomb raider and adventure-seeker—has everything she wants. Freedom. Independence. No chains (a.k.a. a man). Her troubles begin when she’s attacked on a dig in Peru. Soon, she’s forced to use her tomb raiding talents to find the flaming arrows of an Egyptian goddess. In the wrong hands, this weapon could destroy the human race—and nearly had.

Used to doing things her own way, it isn’t long before she figures out that she needs the help of Harrison Braden Stanton, her stuffy, but so yummy, Egyptologist and ex-lover. There’s one problem. He despises what she does. As Mia and Harrison find themselves in the middle of a battle between the Egyptian gods and goddess, there’s no choice for the woman with a Grand Canyon-sized independence streak and the man working for the Egyptian god, Osiris, but to work together to prevent the destruction of all they love.

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book. The history of Egypt thrown in with paranormal is a great combo.

Mia is a tomb raider but she is very selective on who gets the artifacts she finds. While on a dig in Peru she is attacked and forced to look for the flaming arrows of an Egyptian Goddess that if put in the wrong hands can destroy everything. Mia is forced to work with the one man from her past Harrison whose name she can’t even stand to hear. But the two of them have to put aside the feelings and work with together in a battle against Egyptian Gods and Goddess to protect everything from being destroyed.

I loved Mia she is a heroine that you just love.  She is strong, independent, loyal to those she loves, and has a passion for what she does. Harrison is a great hero one I loved from the beginning. All the characters are written so well. But for me my favorite part of this story is all the history of Egypt along with the Gods and Goddess.

This book is the perfect mix of tomb raider meets Indiana Jones with Egyptian Gods and Goddess thrown in and a Heroine and Hero who leave you wanting more. 5/5 Bloody Fangs

Excerpt:
What was with all the handsome blokes lately? It seemed she couldn’t go more than an hour without seeing men who were the poster children for every woman’s fantasy. Or were they just her fantasies?

He removed the gun from Gus’s temple but didn’t drop his arm. The man’s grip was steady, not quivering from the weight of the weapon. Strong, she figured. Used to holding guns to people’s heads. Lovely.

“My employer is getting impatient. She requires an answer.” His head cocked. “And for your sake, I hope it’s the right one.”

She? “An answer to what?”

Icy blue eyes looked deep into hers. “Don’t be coy, Ms. Langdon. It doesn’t suit you.”

“Well, you see, I’ve already given my answer so I really don’t understand your purpose in being here.” Mia placed both hands on her desk’s front edge. “I suggest you leave right now before I get madder than I already am.”

“Oh?”

“You and your men broke into my house, assaulted my employees and now threaten one of them with a gun. I’m plenty pissed right now, but still willing to let you walk away with your manhood intact.”

“And if I don’t comply with your eloquent demand?”

She shrugged. “You’ll leave me with no choice.” Her fingers tiptoed under the desk’s lip. “I’ll have to make you leave. On a stretcher.”

His laughter rippled forward, a rich, rolling guffaw that actually sent freaking shivers along her spine. Christ, Mia, just how long has it been since you had sex?

“And how do you intend to do that?”

She let a slow smile dance across her lips. “Like this.”

As she finished speaking, she tugged the stiletto from the hidden compartment under the desk and threw it at the man. At the same time, Gus collapsed to the floor and did a backward flip. The long slender blade with its needle-like point punched into the man’s shoulder. He let out a cry of pain and rage. Off balance, his fingers tightened involuntarily on the trigger. The Colt roared a single shot, splitting the wood of the paneled wall on the opposite side of the room.

She lunged across the desk, her ass sliding on the smooth surface and kicked the gun from his hand. Her feet hit the floor, and she immediately flipped a snap-kick at the man himself. He blocked her strike with both hands and before she could pull back, used her forward motion to spin her around. His right arm came from behind, snaked around her neck in a one-arm chokehold dragging her against his chest. The metallic scent of blood mixed with an outdoorsy odor teased her nose.

“Aside from the little poke, I expected more from you, Ms. Langdon.” His words blew a warm gust across her neck. Tiny hairs lifted. “I’m disappointed.”

She took a deep breath, suppressing the flush of rage clawing for release. Sparring while angry was a dumb way to get pulverized. “Don’t be,” she countered. “I don’t want to mess up my new carpet with more of your blood.”

Guest Post:
People say you should write about what you know. Do you have any personal experiences that helped you while writing your book?

You are right. For years, writers were told to “write what you know.”  And this was something I heard when I began this path over ten years ago.  I did some research on who said this and while this is most frequently attributed to Mark Twain, there is a general consensus that no one really knows who said it but more than that, it’s something that should be banned.
So, what does it mean, really? Well, some believe it should be taken literally – to mean writers should not write about things we have not personally experienced. This is actually the definition I heard many years ago. Now, I find it very amusing and my reaction to it can be summed up by a quote from Robert Duncan, “If I write what you know, I bore you; if I write what I know, I bore myself, therefore I write what I don’t know.”
Isn’t that great? Here’s another by Howard Nemerov that made me laugh - “Write what you know. That should leave you with a lot of free time.”
So true. Now, I don’t consider myself uninformed. I’m smart. I know stuff. But I don’t know enough about places and things to infuse my stories with the atmosphere readers are looking for. Because while we read about characters, we also read for places and things. If I were to write only about what I know, I’d be writing short, flat stories.
I write paranormal stories. I have yet to meet a fallen angel, demon or a shape-shifting rock. I have yet to travel to another planet. I have to visit Egypt and see the pyramids at Giza. I have yet to explore the Mayan ruins in South America. Yet, these are all places I have visited in my research.
I’d like to leave you with another great quote on author’s writing what they know. This is from Valerie Sherwood: “Don’t write what you know – what you know may bore you, and thus bore your readers. Write about what interests you – and interests you deeply – and your readers will catch fire at your words.”
Would my writing be any better if I experienced some of these things? Maybe. I don’t know. I think what makes it great is that I haven’t been there so I can infuse my stories with the passion of discovering something new. And that’s what I try to do.
I hope you agree.

Jennie Schroder lives with her husband and three amazing and energetic children in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. She studies Court Reporting at Sumner College in Portland, Oregon. Her love of writing took off in her junior high school years in Mrs. Eckert’s Creative Writing Class. Now she is sharing the stories in her head with everyone because there are way too many to keep to herself. If not writing, seeking out readers, interacting and thanking her amazing supporters, or daydreaming about her next story or being a very exhausted mother to 2 young boys and a teenage daughter, Jennie loves most to be playing with her family – indoors and out and reading.

What you thought you knew about the BIBLE is about to CHANGE.
What if you found out you were the granddaughter of the first woman, no not Eve, but Lilith? After 150 years Dika Edens, the oldest of 4 girls each destined to live forever finds out that very thing. She is not sure if it is a curse or a gift from the Gods. All she knows is the man that has informed her of this has way too much guilt on his shoulders regarding her and her past. Chrome is her Guardian but that does not mean he can protect her from everything. He should be the first one to know that - since he is the one telling her that she must save the world.

My name is Dika, I am an American born Hungarian, Polish, Spanish Gypsy with a little bit of something special, born right here in the green state of Oregon, home of the Beavers. History would be changed in a matter of a few words spoken from the man that has been haunting my dreams. My sisters and I need to save the world and if we don't the Universe will cease to exist as we know it.

My name is Chrome Jai, Dragon Guardian to Dika Edens, created to protect her from the evils of the first human woman mother of mankind. I will protect her as she fights to save the humans, but her first assignment will be to make it through the first 48 hours and find her Aunt and her Grandmother.
We will go together to hell and back just to fix the mess of the Gods and man.

My Review:
I loved this book from page one and enjoyed every minute of staying up late into the morning to finish it. This book is for adults only as it has explicit language and steamy scenes with one very hot and sexy dragon guardian.

Dika thinks she and her sisters are just your average immortal Gypsy with something extra. As each sister has a special power. Dika’s is being able to control the weather. But she doesn’t know how to handle it well as she is blowing up light bulbs, lap tops, among other things. But one day everything Dika thought she knew changes when she is out camping trying to center herself from some nightmares that plague her from an attack that happened two years previous. She wakes up knowing she is not alone and begs the person to show himself but Dika was not expecting it to be such a sexy man named Chrome. Chrome is Dika’s dragon guardian he was created to protect her all her life but to never show him self to her. But when she begs he can’t help but listen and reveal him self. But Chrome has a message for Dika she and her sisters are the daughter of Lilith and they have to fight a war against Lucifer, Eve, and all the evil in the world to protect the universe. With their guardians by their side will they be able to defeat Lucifer and Eve or will Eve get her wish that Lilith’s bloodline will be all eradicated.

I loved all the characters in this book. They have strong personalities and I could connect to Dika, her sisters, and Chrome immediately. I found myself laughing out loud so much through this book which was not a good thing at 3:00 a.m. and causing people to wake up. When I wasn’t laughing I was left breathless from the scenes with Dika and Chrome they left me wanting more because they are HOT!  J.M. does an amazing job with her descriptions she will have you feeling every emotion as if your right there with the characters.

With a new twist on what you thought you knew about Adam, Eve, Lilith, and the garden of Eden J.M. throws it all the window and leaves you thinking and begging her for more of the characters and world she as created. 5/5 Bloody Fangs
